My day started at 4 AM as I woke up to get ready for my flight down to Miami at around 7. It wasn’t so much the getting up early part that bothered me, more of the train ride down to the airport. Something about being solicited and panhandled at five in the morning just didn’t start my morning off right. The flight was uneventful, which is probably a good thing. Upon arriving in Miami, the weather was of course ten times as beautiful as it was in Atlanta. With it sunny and a high of 68 °F, I was loving it. I actually arrived for my appointment about three hours early and the person I was meeting had even come in for the day yet. So I sat in the lobby with the overcompensating Israeli security guard and tried to put some pages away in the book I was reading. I sat there for about a half hour until someone was able to see me (thank god I didn’t have to wait three whole hours). We met for about an hour and a half. To be quite honest, it was quite enjoyable and I know I got a lot of good information out of the meeting. I left the building around 12 PM, so that gave me around six hours before my flight back to Atlanta.
I decided I’d take a look at the beach, as it didn’t seem to far away. I walked around for a half hour just looking for an ATM in order to grab some cash for a cab. I’m not entirely sure I was in the greatest part of time. Anyways, I found a Shell and went inside to use the ATM. Not knowing how far away the beach was and wanting to know how much the cab would cost me, I attempted to talk to the clerk, who clearly didn’t speak any English. Like, none. Luckily, the guy behind me in line answered my questions and
offered to give me a ride. Now, I can’t say I’ve ever been one to just strike up a conversation with someone or hop in random cars, but for some reason unbekownst to me, I accepted. He began driving what I think was some type of Audi. All I know is that it moved. Really moved. We began what seemed like a tour of Miami with a brief explanation of the layout of the land and what not. Upon getting to know this guy, I found out that he was actually an ER physician at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach. We happened to drive by it along with the Miami Beach golf course and other flashy spots in the area. In any case, he dropped me off right in the middle of South Beach with directions on how to get to the beach and where to see the people. It was fun to say the least. I do regret never getting his name though. I would have liked to have sent him an e-mail saying thanks and whatnot.
In any case, I found myself at this Irish pub where I had a beer or two and people watched. It can be so much fun, especially when there are girls walking around in practically nothing. After a quick stay there, I just walked around for a good hour or so before I headed back to the airport to fly
home. It wasn’t long, but it was a cool little side adventure, especially since I’d never been to South Beach.
The cab ride back cost me $32, but I wasn’t too upset about it. I had fun. Once through security and at the gate, I just played the waiting game until boarding. I think I listened to Foreigner to drown out the sound of the news talking about Tiger Woods constantly. At this point, I don’t really care about what he did or didn’t do. Leave him alone so I can stop hearing about it. And to that guy (now dead) who set his own house on fire and flew his plane into the IRS offices, you’re a nutcase. End of story.
After landing in Atlanta, I began the long ride back on the train. Though really not that long, it feels like an eternity when you’re surrounded by people who make you feel uneasy about being white. I’m sorry, I didn’t have any say in the matter. Anyways, I got off at my station, drove home (thank you MARTA for 18 hours of free parking), and had a piece of pizza that my dad saved for me. Thanks dad. All in all, it was a pretty awesome day. I didn’t really do much, but sometimes it’s better that way.
Today I started the major cleanup. I spent three hours cleaning my room and completed about ten loads of laundry. The only thing I didn’t get around to doing that I wish I could have was cleaning out my car. I always feel bad when I have to brush off the passenger seat in order for someone to sit down without breaking something. I’m not really sure what prompted me to actually take action for once… Maybe it was something in the water. Meanwhile, I discovered that you can can order just about any CD imaginable off of Amazon. I’m currently stuck on Clubbers Guide 2009.
It’s a two disk set that makes you hit repeat on a couple tracks. All in all, its been a pretty good day.
